Daily Skin Regime

The dry weather takes a huge toll on our skin and hair. To keep your face looking and feeling fresh this winter, I suggest getting into a daily skin care regime. Men and Women should be doing this! I will share my regime, using examples from the product line I use, Estee Lauder. Keep in mind there are many skincare lines out there!

Morning

1 Cleanser
Clean off your face each morning! Get that drool out of your pours.
2 Toner
Toner serves the purpose of removing excess cleanser is off your skin. It neautralizes your face. If you are trying to save money this could be something you don't NEED.
Pour Reduction Cream
Explains itself
Eye Cream
I just started using this particular one that is supposed to help reduce dark circles and puffiness.

Moisturizer
This is the first thing i would buy for your skincare. It is the number one thing that will get your skin healthy.

Night

Make up Remover
Get all your make up off before you cleanse. You don't want to be rubbing dirt, oil and make up into your pours. You can make up remover wipes as well, which are pretty convenient. I just use a cotton pad.
Cleanser

Cleanse your face from the daily dirt.
Toner
Neautralize
Night Repair
This is different from a moisturizer. Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair specifically helps repair the skin. It helps with reducing signs of aging and preventing wrinkles. I highly recommend it!
Eye Cream
I also use this cream day/night. It just depends what I have on hand. This one is supposed to help with wrinkle prevention
Moisturizer!!

Recap

I know that good skincare can cost money. I have decided its worth it to me to invest in good quality skincare. How do you choose which skincare system? I recommend going to several makeup counters and let them know you are tying to find a new skincare system. Each skincare line has different products for all skin types. Oily, Normal Combination, and Dry. Many companies will give you sample products to try at home.

The first thing I would invest in is Moisturizer. It is extremely important to moisturize at night. When we go to sleep our body repairs itself, including skin! If you go to bed at night without a moisturizer your skin has nothing to repair itself with! If you go to bed with a dirty face you are likely to break out often.

Happy cleansing!!

Improving health of Skin and Hair

I am often asked, "What can I do to improve the health of my hair?" My first answer has nothing to do with hair product. What you put into your body affects your overall physical health and appearance. These are my healthy skin and hair essentials:

1)Water
2)Multi Vitamin
3) Water
4) Omega 3
5) Water
6) Vitamin D
7) Diet

Why is water so important?
We can survive 7-10 days without food, but only 3 days without water. Drinking water won't hydrate your skin or make your hair less frizzy. Your skin/hair type (dry, normal, oily) is mainly determined by your genes. So why do I stress such an essential thing for your physical health? When I am hydrated my skin seems to stay more clear. In today's day and age we seem to drink so much sugary drinks. I challenge everyone to start replacing those with good old H2O!

Multi Vitamins
It is hard to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals we need. Here is a list of how different vitamins can help hair growth. Whenever I am trying to get my hair to grow faster, I like to take a multivatimin, as well as Nioxin tablets. I have heard other people getting success by supplementing biotin.

Vitamin D
I take three drops of Vitamin D every morning. Research about this has grown a lot about this vitamin. Vitamin D promotes healthy bones, by aiding with calcium absorbtion. They are also finding it benefits with lowering blood pressure, heart related diseases, and diabetes. I started taking this when my uncle Kory Branham, who practices chiropracty, found me to be deficient. It could be in my head, but I find this puts me in a better mood. This, along with Omega 3, helps reduce my stress levels.

Omega 3
Omega 3 has so many health benefits. It benefits cardiovascular health, decreasing depression, increaseing brain function, and can help prevent some cancers. It can also be helpful with balancing and strengthening out your skin and hair. Here are some benefits of fish oils for hair. Fish oils can help reduce acne and breakouts, and can help fight aging.(livestrong.com)

Diet
What you eat promotes healthy skin and hair. I am not a specialist in nutrition, but I do know the benefits to a balanced diet. Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats and Sugars are all essential to our diet.(Balance for Diet) My rule of thumb is to try and get nutrient rich foods, and to eat things in moderation.

It can be hard to make lifestyle changes. Habits are hard to form. Start with one thing, and overtime, you will start seeing the benefits like I do!

Introduction

The Burtons: Dexter, Mindy, Perry, Vinny

In a Nut Shell

My name is Mindy. People ask me why I chose to go to beauty school. I don't have a simple answer.
I was born and raised in Mapleton Utah. I was taught to appreciate art and music. I started playing piano when i was three, cello when i was eight, and self taught myself guitar when I was fourteen. I also loved photography and took art classes for many years. I grew up loving to write; journaling, short stories, and poems.
I went to Utah State in 2006 as a journalism major, with a photography minor. I loved my first year of college, yet I started wondering what I really wanted to do. I loved watching fashion t.v. shows, especially when photoshoots were involved. I started thinking about how cool it would be to be able to do hair, makeup, and be a photographer. I was also about to lose my boyfriend, Perry, for two years.
When I moved back to Provo I started looking into schools. I visited three or four schools, and found Paul Mitchell to be the most appealing for me.

School Begins

I enrolled in September of 2007. I found I had a nack for it. I remember about 3 months in I finally got it! My teachers commented how good I was at balancing my haircuts, and think objectively at such a beginning stage. I got involved with the design team and student council. I started working as a Phase 2 studen at 800 hours ( most people don't get the opportunity until 1000). I was able to participate in photoshoots and events involving fashion shows. I loved the people I worked with, but after 2000 hours, one is ready to kick beauty school to the curb.
My education did not stop at Paul Mitchell. I worked with Tamu Smith of Interactions Salon. I assisted her and became educated with ethnic hair styling.
As some people warned me, I needed a break from doing hair. I worked out of my home for over a year. That break was so good for me. When i decided it was time for me to start really getting back into hair, I found the Hidden Clipper Salon.

Where I am now

I transfered to BYU, I was dating and soon to be engaged to Perry, and I lived right next to the salon. I thought it would be fun to get a part time job.
A new education began in 2009. I was able to work with Kavita (king) Daniels and Kathryn Smart. These ladies had been in the industry for 7 and 10 years. It was humbling. I cried a lot. But I was so grateful for the newly refined skills.
I have attended continuing education in Vegas the past two years. I was able to go to great classes from wonderful educators in the industry.
I want to continue my knowledge, and sometimes the best way to learn is to teach. I hope the information i provide will be beneficial to fellow stylist, or those wanting to learn a little more about doing hair!

I have been married since 2010. I have two dogs. I am working on getting a business degree, slowly but surely. I work two jobs to support my husband, Perry, while he goes to school.
